Handy Seafood’s Crisfield, Maryland plant earned their second “A” grade from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards for Packaging and Packaging Material.  An “A” grade is the highest available and Handy once again demonstrates its commitment to food safety standards.

Upon completion of the rigorous auditing process, Handy received certification for Food Safety, with the scope of the certification including the preparation and packing of seafood products for retail and food service trades.

BRC has been recognized internationally as the leader in food safety certification and has certified over 18,000 suppliers in over 100 countries around the globe. It was also the first Food Safety Standard to be benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The BRC food safety standard is designed to provide the basis for certification for food manufacturers who implement good manufacturing practices and have supporting quality management systems.

“We assembled a team that focuses on standards, procedures and quality improvement to achieve BRC Certification,” explains Todd Conway, Handy Seafood’s President & CEO. “Our employees are committed and worked very hard to make this happen” said Conway.
