Handy Seafood Celebrates 100th Season of Soft Shell Crab Processing

100th Anniversary Celebration

Handy Seafood, America's oldest seafood processor, celebrated it's 100th season of soft shell crab processing at their Crisfield, MD plant last week.

In 1917, Handy started processing soft shell crabs from the Chesapeake Bay in Crisfield, Maryland. Now a century later, the family-owned business continues to process soft shell crabs along with other seafood items like oysters, crab cakes and crab meat.

"Crisfield is a community that treasures it's history and Handy is proud to be a part of that. Handy has existed in 3 centuries on the Eastern Shore - 1800's, 1900's and 2000's and we are planning to be around the for 4th century as well", said Terry Conway, Executive Director at Handy Seafood.

Handy celebrated this milestone with employees, watermen, council members and local businesses with a seafood fest to honor the support throughout the years. "The work ethic and ingenuity of the watermen and Handy employees are a testament to their hard work and dedication", stated Terry Conway.
